The team at the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC) have just shared this heart-breaking rescue story 😢 Their Human-Orangutan Conflict Response Unit received information about an injured mother orangutan and her baby in a village in Aceh province. The team checked the area and found a female orangutan with her tiny baby in an oil palm plantation. The female was tranquilised and both orangutans were immediately evacuated with BKSDA Aceh and WCS. The mother orangutan had serious injuries from sharp objects on her right arm and leg and left finger. Both of her eyes were also damaged from air rifle pellets. The baby was in a very weak condition and tragically died on the way to the SOCP Quarantine Centre 💔 The team is still on their way to the centre in an endeavour to help this female orangutan, now named Hope, survive. This has been a very difficult rescue for the dedicated OIC team and it is so devastating to know that this traumatised mother orangutan has now lost her precious infant as well as being injured so cruelly. Our hearts go out to beautiful Hope and all involved with her rescue. RIP to her little one. Text from The Orangutan Project
