HIGHLIGHTS

EXPEDITION OVERVIEW

Our 7-Day Tanjung Puting Orangutan Experience explores Tanjung Puting National Park in Central Kalimantan, a distinctive location teeming with orangutans, the rare proboscis monkey, and the false gavial crocodile. Throughout your journey, you will reside on a traditional riverboat known as a klotok, equipped with essential comforts. Nights are spent sleeping on comfortable mattresses on the deck, complete with blankets, pillows, and mosquito nets. Our onboard crew will prepare delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Klotoks are fitted with safety equipment, including life vests and a first-aid kit. When not trekking through the jungle, you can unwind on deck, observe wildlife, read, or simply relax.

EXPEDITION GOALS
Our goal is to provide our guests with a unique experience whilst observing wild and semi-wild orangutans in their natural habitat. We will provide you with a safe platform to observe the wildlife that Borneo has to offer; including proboscis monkeys, gibbons and more. We will also provide you with comprehensive information about the destination you are in, so that you are fully informed about your surroundings. Our joint effort with The Orangutan Project continues to support conservation programs in both Borneo and Sumatra. Each guest's fare includes the cost of a one-year orangutan adoption package.

WHAT TO EXPECT
You are embarking on an adventure to places and amongst people whose lives are very different from your own. Many aspects of life in Indonesia will seem unusual. Remember that these are often the same aspects that make an area an exotic and attractive destination. While boat expeditions are considered easy, no trek is easy; even those rated "easy or moderate". In addition to the personal physical challenges you may face, travel conditions can present unexpected obstacles, such as rough and bumpy roads and changeable weather. To prepare for this "pack" a flexible and relaxed attitude. Bring a spirit of adventure and inquiry, a healthy sense of humour and a willingness to encounter the unexpected and you will find your trip to Indonesia the adventure of a lifetime!

Day 3: Exploring Tanjung Puting National Park

This morning, we will head to Kumai, a riverside town, where we will board our klotok (riverboat) to begin our journey into Tanjung Puting National Park. This marks the start of your 3-day/2-night klotok adventure. We will cruise gently along the river, keeping an eye out for orangutans and other wildlife. In the late afternoon, we will visit the first orangutan feeding station at Tanjung Harapan. As the day ends, we'll return to the river to search for proboscis monkeys. We will spend the night on board our klotok (riverboat). (B,L,D)

Day 4: Tanjung Puting National Park - Journey to Camp Leakey

An early start takes us back onto the klotok as we slowly travel up the Sekonyer River towards Camp Leakey, the oldest sanctuary for orphaned orangutans. Along our route, we will watch for wild orangutans, various bird species, monkeys, and other wildlife in the riverside trees. Upon reaching Camp Leakey, we will have lunch on the klotok before a short trek to the information center. You will likely encounter orangutans near the boat. After observing the afternoon feeding and touring the surrounding forest, we will return to the boat and cruise down the Camp Leakey River to Crocodile Lake for the night. Expect to see more of Borneo's wildlife, including gibbons and proboscis monkeys. Overnight on the klotok. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Tanjung Puting National Park - Pondok Tanggui and Return to Pangkalan Bun

After breakfast on the river, we will visit Pondok Tanggui, the second orangutan feeding station. Following lunch, we will tour a local village.
